Chloe and I co-authored this book because we wanted to document the extraordinary co-creative theater scene in Chicago. We also wanted to encourage people to make work themselves.

Ensemble-Made Chicago covers 15 Chicago companies who co-create/devise work. Each chapter includes background on the company, as well as step-by-step exercises that the companies use to make performance. We also include suggestions for mixing and matching across practices.

Fun fact! Chloe and I both specialize in co-created performance; we both went to the same graduate program (at different times); we both live in Chicago; and we didn’t really know each other at all until we collaborated on a keynote presentation that ended up being the seed of this book!
