In 2005, Irasema Gonzalez, Diana Pando, and I cofounded Proyecto Latina, a multimedia collective amplifying Latina arts and culture. The cornerstone of Proyecto Latina was a monthly reading/performance series, which included a featured artist, an open mic, and the famous chisme box (see above). Other projects included a radio show and a website. In 2013, we released the self-published Rebeldes: A Proyecto Latina Anthology to document the 7 years in which Proyecto Latina was most active. Why am I talking about it in the past? We are on hiatus, and some of our work to support new Latina writers has been picked up by the Chicago Latino Writers Initiative, also co-founded by the amazing Diana Pando.
